Brazilian Lemonade made with fresh limes and condensed milk is the perfect blend of sweet, tangy, and creamy

Today is G’s birthday and as it happens to be a weekend and the weather seems promising, I decided to invite a few friends over and do a backyard party for him. He took me to a three-day trip to Las Vegas early this week for my birthday (yes, our birthdays are just days apart) and it’s now my turn to be nice. 🙂

While he planned and did the lot of the work on our last BBQ shindig, this time, he gets to lounge around and be served like a king for a day. While our last grilling party was all about Korean short ribs, we’re having a full-on Mexican feast for this afternoon’s festivities.

Creamy condensed milk is blended with fresh limes for a sweet and tangy summer drink

I marinated a good few pounds of carne asada and Pollo Asado which we will be cooking over charcoal later and will serve with sides of rice and beans. I also made salsa and guacamole to go with homemade corn chips and various refreshments such as tamarindo, horchata and this Brazilian lemonade to stave off the afternoon heat.

I am so excited for G! I am sure he’ll have a grand time with the delicious feast and the awesome company later today.

Brazilian Lemonade has fresh limes with creamy condensed milk for a sweet and tandy summer treat

Although called “lemonade”, Brazilian lemonade is actually made with limes and sweetened condensed milk. The ingredients are pulsed in the blender to extract flavor, strained through a fine mesh sieve to discard the pulp, and served over ice for a drink that’s both refreshing and delicious.

Give this Brazilian lemonade a try and I am sure you’ll love it as much as we do. It’s creamy, tangy and the perfect way to cool down this summer. And with only four ingredients and less than 5 minutes of prep time, summer beverage can’t get any easier!

Here are a few things to note before you make your own big batch.

  • For more juice and less bitter taste, use limes with the thinnest and smoothest skins.
  • As we are using the limes whole, make sure to wash and scrub them well to rid of any wax or pesticides.
  • Do not overprocess the limes in the blender or you’ll end up with a bitter drink! Just a few pulses here and there to extract the juice will do.

Here in Brazil, this lemonade is called “Swiss lemonade” and we use regular sugar. Funny, isn’t it?

Swiss lemonade? Interesting! So you only add sugar and no condensed milk?

Yes! Just regular sugar or any sweetner. You’ll see it’s a lot less sweet and more refreshing.

I see, so it’s more like a blender limeade. I’ll give that a try next time. Thanks for the tip 🙂
